İzak Eskinazi, the founder of Spot Tekstil, one of the veterans of Izmir in the ready-to-wear industry, answered Enfotek's questions. While the experienced businessman talked about his entry into the sector and the long journey of Spot Tekstil, which was established in 1993, he gave important opinions that will shed light on the market. Eskinazi, who also makes suggestions to companies for a correct ERP investment, expressed his confidence in Enfotek by saying "EDS is my favourite". We present to you the interview we conducted with the veteran ready-made clothing designer Izak Eskinazi:
Thank you Mr. Izak for hosting us in your company. Ready-to-wear industry knows you well, but can you briefly talk about yourself?
Hello. I was born in 1957 in Izmir. After completing primary and high school in İzmir, I graduated from Middle East Technical University, Department of Business Administration in 1978. Then I started the textile business, which is our family profession. Later, I got involved in apparel production. I started exporting weaving in 1986. I founded Spot Tekstil company in 1993.
Spot Tekstil is one of the biggest textile companies in İzmir today. It produces for important brands. As the founder, can we get information about the business from you?
At the beginning, there was woven apparel, we thought that we could do some work on knitting, and we established Spot Tekstil in İzmir. The journey that started with 10-15 people continues today with more than 250 employees. We are currently producing for companies such as Inditex Group (including Bershka, Massimo Dutti, Oysho, Pull & Bear, Stradivarius, Zara and Zara Home and Uterqüe brands) and H&M.
Based on your many years of industry experience, what should be the future strategy of the industry in the national and international market?
I wish the answer to this question was clear and knowable. Competition will increase in the coming period. The only thing that will keep the production companies like us alive will be sustainable and environmentally friendly production. The whole world is focused on these issues. Especially the Far East is taking radical steps in this regard. Therefore, competition with the Asian market will become very difficult in the coming years. However, our advantages are that Turkey is close to the European market and is ahead in fashion. However, in my opinion, the next 10 years will be difficult.
So, what are the pleasant and difficult aspects of the ready-made clothing industry?
Those who do not like this job cannot be permanent in the sector. Those who started this job just for the financial reasons were left out of the sector over time. Creating new things, interacting with customers and keeping in touch with the younger generation are among the enjoyable aspects of my profession. The difficult aspects are; According to the risk you take compared to other sectors, maybe it's a job you shouldn't do. But it feels good to do this job when you love it. However, day by day, serious problems such as environmental and social problems, pressures and customer demands are arising in the ready-made clothing industry. It is necessary to make updates here as a company. It is also necessary to make chemical analyzes and be sensitive to the environment. Price pressure and all other risks are also hard sides.
Now, I would like to talk about your acquaintance with ENFOTEK and using EDS for 20 years. Why did you prefer EDS? What do you think about the program in active use now?
When I first saw EDS, I thought it would bring discipline and self-control to our company about the flow of information. This prediction came true and the program satisfied me. With EDS, I predicted that the process of doing business according to your mind was over and the system was permanent. In this regard, the program did not mislead me. I think EDS is the right choice.
How do you interpret the added value of EDS to business processes? How does the program provide convenience for Spot Tekstil?
With EDS, business processes are standardized. It is a correct program in terms of having a clear job description, units, and follow-up. These features provide convenience to employees. These are the most important advantages of these types of ERP software and EDS does it very well. Because EDS is a program improved by textile engineer friends who know this job well. They immediately share their experiences with us when we have any problems. They support us in any problem. Returning to your question again, EDS has brought discipline to Spot Tekstil in terms of business processes. I think that all kinds of tracking and all kinds of information can be obtained quickly from EDS.
What can you say about the consultancy services of Enfotek company?
Enfotek is a company that has to improve itself every day. Until today, 7 versions have been created in EDS. This is an important work and there is something new in each version. We are in constant contact with the managers and they care about our opinions. With these feedbacks, they revise the programs... Enfotek does not have the problems you will experience while working with large corporate companies. Enfotek has the advantages of easy access and fast response.
Before moving on to the last question, what would you recommend to the managers of companies that want to invest in ERP, based on your experience, for the right choice and installation?
EDS is an ERP that works specifically in this regard and is completely suitable for the ready-made clothing industry. Other ERP programs on the market can be much more comprehensive, however, EDS is a program improved only for apparel and includes many experiences. That's why EDS is my favourite one.
Our last question is: In recent years, the main agendas of the sector are sustainability and corporate social responsibility. What are your thoughts about it? What is Spot Tekstil doing about this?
In the coming years, all global companies will act on the main theme of sustainability. Social responsibility is also an obligation. When I talk about making a sustainable production; I mean some important issues such as recycling, environmental compliance, giving full and correct employee rights and wage management systems... As a company, we are very sensitive about these issues and we have serious practices in these matters.
Mr. Izak Eskinazi, on behalf of Enfotek, thank you for hosting us and for sharing your valuable opinions with us.
